Hoppy Easter (Chocolate!)

Happy happy joy joy…. Sunday I was visited by a GFCF Easter Bunny! Woohoo!

My gluten free, casein free dark chocolate booty from Chocolate Decadence. Yum! (To give you an idea of scale, this bunny is about 5 inches tall...)

With my new GFCF status, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t feel left out of the chocolate treat part of this holiday. ‘Cause even tho it’s been many years since the Easter Bunny left a basket for me, I’ve always found a way to indulge in more than my share of chocolate! And now that our son is now 5, there are always plenty of events and holiday get-togethers that provide ample opportunity for a chocoholic like myself to snag a little bit of chocolate. :) So to think of a chocolate-less Easter, well, that was just too depression for words.

To be sure I could join in the sugar surge this Easter I placed a large order of gluten-free, casein-free chocolate from a wonderful site called Chocolate Decadence. They specialize in dairy free chocolate – which I’m coming to learn is difficult to find (every kind of dairy free chocolate I’ve tried has been processed in the same facilities or same lines as milk chocolate and I’ve had to deal with CC… but that’s a topic for another post).

This was my first time ordering from Chocolate Decadence and it was an all around pleasant experience. Expensive, but pleasant. I spent $74 USD (including shipping) to get the GFCF treats you see in my picture to the right. It’s all yummy dark chocolate: a solid bunny, one bag of  solid chocolate Buttons (not pictured – I couldn’t wait to try them!!), one bag of peanut butter buttons (small bag with red label on left), a two pack of Peanut Butter Balls and a two pack of Coconut Balls (two small bags on right with brown labels), a box of Double Chocolate Truffles (in the back, white box), a dark chocolate Truffle bar, a Peanut Butter Bar and a Mint Bar. Phew!! Think I went a little overboard? 😛

So far I’ve only tried the Chocolate Buttons (and they were so good I ate all 6.. or was it 8..? in the first two days after I got them!) and one of the truffles. Both were very good! Smooth, not gritty. Rich and full flavored without going too far into the coffee flavor (’cause even though I love chocolate, I don’t like coffee at all). The small bag of Buttons (2 oz.) cost $3.95 and the Double Chocolate Truffles were $26.95 (16 in the box, which didn’t have a Net Weight on the label but it said “cost per pound” on the website). And considering the price I used to pay for chocolate (I would get my chocolate from Godiva so that it was too expensive to eat too much at once – I needed that financial limiter ’cause I have no willpower!!) this order wasn’t exorbitantly expensive. The Chocolate Buttons were a little bigger than a quarter and pretty thin, but not too thin. A nice size and texture for a two bite chocolate experience. The Truffle was a bit wider and much heavier and bigger than I expected (which I guess means that it’s bigger than my usual Godiva truffles). They’re almost the size of a golf ball. Well, a bit smaller. And flat on one side. Kinda like a melty chocolate ping pong ball. 😛  And they’re oh-so-rich! I had to leave half of it for later. So far I think the Double Chocolate Truffles give the most chocolate-bang-per-buck. The super decadent flavor and soft, rich texture gives this Chocoholic a smile just thinking about it.

Hummm….. where’s that box of Truffles…?

Well, I’ll report back on the rest of the kinds of chocolate as the weeks progress. (I may spend a lot on my chocolate, but I make it last, so it may be summer before I get to some of it. I used to buy a box of Valentine’s Godivas the day after and make it last until mid-end of summer. :)
